Freez when loading from SD
« on: January 07, 2012, 07:51:34 PM »
Hello.
I am now a lucky owner of NEO N64 Myth + NEO2 Pro 1024M SD, but i have som problems.

i have:
CPLD: V6
Neo N64 Myth Menu v2.4 (U2/7101)

The worst problem is that it freez when i load from SD card. Its loading the game to 100%, but the game does not start.
I have tryed 2 sd cards, and same loading error happend =/ I have tryed FAT and FAT32. Have formated them slow, fast and more.
Tryed the switch on/off on the n64 myth.
I gonna link to pictures. Since my english rnt perfect.

When i try burn games to neo2 pro it fails OFTEN. Have to burn maby 10 times bfr it works. But when its done, all work perfect on the n64 =)

Does anyone know how to fix this "bugs"

Take a look at the pictures and you understand what i talk about =)

Sounds like defective GBA cart to me,although you might want to give a try to HW tests that we have added in the latest versions of the n64 myth menu.

How to use it :
-Make sure to reflash everything (U2,MF)
-Power on your console while holding L+R+Z to get into HW test mode
-Press A -> A to do the zipram test and see if it detected a memory aliasing issue
-Power off/on the console
-Go again into HW test mode and test the ONBOARD(only) SRAM.
This test works in 2 passes : First you write the seed and power off/on your console and then you do the reading test.

One note : If you're running an 64BIT OS then parts of the U2 menu binary might not be written properly due to bugs in the driver.
I recommend to burn the menu just ONE time under 32BIT OS and when menu upgrades are available , just place them on the SD...

Edit : You could also play with the speed settings , although i don't think that it could be an issue.
Look in : /menu/n64 for a file named either .quick or .fast and replace it with .slow and see if it helps.

ooooooh is this a surprise i did founded??  ~sm-57.gif~.gif
2.5b7 - it seems like it

its possible with some of these problems
that its a matter of like a "cold SD"

this means when a microSD has not been used for a while
it gets "cold" and needs to be warmed up
usually by letting it sit powered on for 5-10 minutes in a warm (on) slot
or by rubbing the gold contacts (which is not ideal method)

this can happen to other types of "cartridges" too
like the GBA cart

ive had many of the same type of problems
but have solved it by warming/cleaning contacts of my cartridges

I don't know about ""cold SDs" that need "warm-up"" , but this problem is totally unrelated.
Most likely its a zipram memory aliasing issue due to connection issue or semi broken SD interface on the GBA cart that can't handle multiple sector reads.

Also from what i see he has v6.0 core installed.I'm guessing that it might be the "buggy" v6.0 and not the proper v6.0+.

When i try format with standar format to clean it more then with fast format it comes error.
have tryed 299 times and an error come between 1% and 35%

Didnt work to change from .fast to .slow.

Today i bought a cable thats 5 inch to get a shorter cable, but same errors!!!

...........It will work after the 300th attempt ~sm-34.gif~

Well im kidding obviously. That error comes up when memory aliasing is detected on the GBA ZIPRAM which translates to : Contact with the shop and ask for a replacement cart.

Send an email here :     "sales /\a\t/ ic2005/./com (remove spaces,\,/)" .
Describe the problem and also include the screenshots/etc...

Being norwegian you could probably use Tradera (unless you have some other site like that in Norway).

never buy cheap controller from eBay
they almost ALWAYS have stick issues
AND cant be replaced because they are wired differently

best option ive found is to buy some replacement sticks
and ALWAYS buy OFFICIAL controller - even if second-hand (and replace stick!!)

BTW
i too would like to try the new menu
but also need the PAL version

i got some experience with this loading issue --- it's the SD card accessing timming issue, you can try  the small size and slow SD card, like 128M /256M / 512M Sd etc.
and you should use the old N64 menu v2.4 to test , because seems this version is stable enough with the small old SD.
In my world, have 0 and 1 only ......Matrix World......

All the SD/SDHC cards I've tried work fine. If you have a card that balks at the timing used when reading, you could try renaming the ".fast" file in the /menu/n64" directory to ".slow" and see if it works.

The Self-Test appears to have picked up a quirk - it says my Pro mirrors as well, but I know it doesn't... it works fine. I'll fix that for the next update. In the meantime, try renaming that file and see if it clears up the issue with your other card.

EDIT: Fixed self-test - when I fixed an issue with the Neo2-Pro with certain revisions of the PC client (not setting flags in the menu flash), this broke the selection of the upper 16M of zip ram in the self-test. It's fixed now and actually verifies ALL my zip ram on my Pro. New beta attached... it's the same as the current menu except for this self-test correction, so I'm not going to make a general post of it.

Sorry for my english... (google translate)

At first, I had a problem similar to yours. I chose the game and it "crashed" at the end. But in my case, it only took issue with 32MB games. But this problem was easily solved when I started using the menu 2.6 that this topic -> http://www.neoflash.com/forum/index.php/topic, 6228.0.html

But I'm still having trouble running games 64MB. I tried burning them several times, but always gives error at the end.
